'You Are Beautiful' from Advice To Sink in Slowly

'You Are Beautiful' By Daryl Waller

A 'Y' made of birds.

'Advice To Sink in Slowly' is a project which began in 2006 at the University College Falmouth, where 19 graduates were asked to create a poster w/ advice and inspiration for first year students. A poster is given as a welcoming gift to every first year student when they enrol.

The project has continued to grow with prints available online, and now, 24 posters from the project have been chosen and made into a postcard book- found online here!

And there's an offer to participate on their blog.

Seen on a newly discovered blog my love for you is like a stampede of horses

***edit*** I ended up buying a print of this! Excited to see it!

One Day

I was immediately arrested by this.

From blood is the new black
"One Day I Will Make It All Up To You. If I had a penny for everytime I said that line I'd be able to buy this shirt."

Amy Walker's 21 English Accents

Amy Walker's 21 accents. Impressive! (and viewed by over half a million people in a few months! Ahhh the power of YouTube!)

The Seattle Accent also sounded like Vancouver, Canada and was perfect. It sounded just like me!

Toronto accent was off though. I've lived in Toronto and I think it actually also sounds like the Seattle one. I think it's more what people 'think' Torontonians sound like (the idea of Canada. A rather distinctive Canadian accent she could have done would be an far eastern Canadian one from Newfoundland or Quebec.

New Ring- 'I Miss You'

After posting these photos today I was delighted to see Emily Watson's apt and astute juxtaposition of imageshere on Flickr. I've also looked at the little lovely bumps from the lettering and thought of topography so it's perfect.

Click all images for a larger view.

"I Miss You',
Ring individually handmade of a custom made stamp and sterling silver. Bold and subtle and brave declarations of love to be left on bedside notes, at the bottom of a letter or a sweetheart's wrist, over their heart, along the nape of their neck... little traces of love left behind.

"I Miss You" was part of my recent solo show at the Crafthouse and is also in Poppytalk Handmade's 'Paper Pops' May/June juried online market and listed on Etsy.

Photos on Flickr with more rings, phrases and sizes to come!

Vintage goodness

Vintage goodness seen post-errands. Seen at in Lazy Susan's Vancouver. Truly the mother lode for great salt and pepper shakers. I was so close to buying the chicken and egg ones. Or the wolves. A few more photos here on flickr.

SALES
Galerie Rob Koudijs

'Ice Necklace' by Ted Noten.

If I were in Amsterdam I would definitely not miss this. I've long been a fan of Ted Noten's and I would love a chance to add to my (so far quite, quite small) art collection with something by him.

If the gallery were posting some pieces online I'd definitely be purusing with intent to buy!

Irregardless of the chance at a deal on a Ted Noten piece, popping into the gallery would be quite exciting they represent an impressive international roster of artists such as Anya Kivarkis, Felieke Van Der Leest (always brilliant), Celio Braga and Lina Peterson (among many others).

Emily Carr Institute Undergraduate Exhibition 2008- Part 2

A few more images from the Emily Carr Grad show, taken earlier this week when I saw the show.

S. Kyu Hwang, The photo's a little dark/rough but it's a detail shot of my favourite piece.

This was the work I'd most love to own; sweet, detailed, modern, vintage. Who I've just googled and find has site under construction and a blog 'draw'.

Super Human Be-In!

Super Human Be-In! So very 70's and so very Vancouver. I was down on Granville Island today (dropping off new work for the Crafthouse shop) and saw this show being installed at the Malaspina Printmakers Gallery, Van BC, Canada .

Super Human Be-In
May 6 - June 1, 2008

I must say, I'm in love with the title. So much so that after buying some apples in the public market I came back to take a picture of it. I'd have taken more photos of the show but they were closed for installation. Hence the ladder. Work made of original copies of the Georgia Straight (local weekly newspaper) from 1969 – 1970 when it was an 'alternative/underground' voice of youth.

Snapshots of 'The Ring' by Sylvie Lambert

Favourites from 'The Ring' by Sylvie Lambert. Photos from book taken at the Vancouver Central Public Library in the art floor's reference room. Click for a larger view of each image.

A book very high on the list of those I'd love to own.

Mario Pinton. Rings I want for my collection. I think that I'm also happy with a good scan of this page and framing it.
And what amazing photography. Impeccable's probably the best term.

Gerda Flockinger's impressive fusing of gold.

Ring by Ted Noten, and rather different then how I normally think of his work.

Love, love, love sets. Love pieces in pieces.

The last weekend of my show 'Like Wearing a Love Letter'

click for larger/legible view.

It is the last weekend of my show 'Like Wearing a Love Letter' at the Craft Association of British Columbia's Gallery the 'Crafthouse'.

Ends in 4 days! on May 4th, 2008

In the next couple days I'll be documenting the show but here are a few photos in the meantime.

Chocolate truffle hearts for the show. Neatly cut on the left and sadly crushed on the right. It doesn't appear that crushed from this angle but the one on the right is in rougher shape then it looks. You could eat little pieces of the tattered bits.

Top- #26- "I miss you", rubber, sterling silver, resin, and water soluble stamp. Inked ring leaves messages of love behind.
Bottom- #25- 'The Love Inside #5', sterling silver, recycled mlyar, archival ink. A simple band hides messages of love.
