Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays from the shockingly snowy West Coast of Canada. It was amazing to see the huge piles of white on everything and everywhere. White sky, ground, trees, etc.

I was quite impressed when my postal person delivered packages to my house as though it was any other day.
* Edit- And that was the last I saw of my postal person for about a week. Still impressive in the beginning though.

Revisiting Multiple Finger Rings

A ring I made that was exhibited at the DX in Toronto (the Canadian Design Museum). 'Mayne Island Beach Ring', of ocean tumbled pebble and layers of rings like waves lapping on the beach. A reminder of sweet summers spent on the rocky tide pool filled beaches of Mayne Island as a child. Surprisingly comfortable on as it's curved to fit the hand.

Old photo of a favourite ring. I made one it a few years ago and I'm redeveloping it! I love multiple finger, three finger and two finger rings and this a great reminder of why.

This ring is a simpler version but has the mystery of the Floating Saucer Series with the a floating stone.

Two MORE front pages in one Day!

How lovely to find that I had two More front pages yesturday- again with my Bubble Lace Ring 4A.

Great chandelier with crystal spears. Love the 'raw quartz' look.

Adam Wallacavage- artist at home - Philadelphia - July 25 2008
I am a huge fan of chandeliers. Even when browsing through the homes of international artists it's the chandeliers that I notice first. In this case it's made by the artist whose home it is. Adam Wallacavage makes the most amazing chandelier of glass blown octopus legs, owls and medusa heads with snakes. I've admired them for awhile.

His home is also full of stuffed animals (not the kind you hug), antique furniture (ala 'drawing room'), more chandeliers, sea faring ephemera and vintage oddities.

Why yes, that is a woman dressed as a 50's waitress jumping on a man dressed as a hamburger.

Etsy front page by Ash Hilton

A couple days ago I was in a great front page curated by Ash Hilton that was full of lovely jewelry by members of EtsyMetal. Everybody featured was/is offering a sale! Mine is on shipping.

Included was my 'Floating Saucer Ring Set of 7 (above). Ring sets made for fun rearrangement of parts to make small, large or full ring combinations.

Another great circular calendar.

I've happened upon another circular calendar poster this week- 'Colour wheel', a 2009 lunar calendar by London based designer Ghin Liew. I have a deep weakness for the colour scheme of 'black+rainbow' and this fills both that need for cheery+black and for interesting calendars. (via DesignSponge)

Inside a mountain in Stockholm

I have wanted to live inside a mountain (or hill) since I was a child so White Mountain was just immediately engaging. Incredibly enough it's a modern data center in Stockholm, Sweden by architects Albert France-Lanord Architects. Photographs by Åke Eson Lindman.

White Mountain's in a former 1200 square meter anti-atomic shelter, it's an amazing location 30 meters down under the granite rocks of the Vita Berg Park in Stockholm.

The client is an internet provider and the rock shelter hosts server halls and offices.

Their references come from science fiction films like ‘Silent Running’ and from Bond films with Ken Adams set design.

How charming and really well realised. I can definitely see a Bond villain in this setting, plotting to overtake the world from these rooms inside a mountain. (via archdaily)
