Win $25,000 to publish your own book! Photography.Book.Now, Submission deadline July 14th, 2008

Great contest that I've found via Dexinger. Win $25,000 to publish your own book! This makes me want to take more pictures (of things other then jewellery)!

The Photography.Book.Now International Salon and Symposium seeks entries for a new photography book competition celebrating self-published photography books and the photographers behind them. The grand prize award is $25,000 to finish - or start - a photography project of the winner's choice.

Photographer and photography book expert Darius Himes will lead a panel of editors, publishers, curators, and photographers who will jury the Photography.Book.Now competition. Photographers are invited to submit their most creative, most innovative, and finest self-published photography books. Entries will be accepted in two categories, General and Themed. Complete entry guidelines and rules are available at

Photography.Book.Now includes a traveling salon showcasing the competition's winning books, and a half-day symposium featuring panels and presentations exploring the modern photography book movement.

To enter, photographers must submit their photography books by July 14, 2008.

Opening night tomorrow!

'My Love Overflows', Ring made of little hearts clustered together like a flower.

I've just set up my show 'Like Wearing a love Letter' at the crafthouse on Granville Island and I must say I'm delighted with it. No photos of it yet, but I'll be bringing my camera tomorrow!

It's a pretty fun show! There'll be: a book to read with some of the love stories I've collected, a drop box where you can submit your own stories and lots of chocolates to eat (truffles and some large heart ones smashed so you can eat little pieces of the broken hearts).

The final pieces include: rings with multiple parts, with multiple layers, for multiple fings, with little compartments for hiding stories, hearts emerging and growing from bands and a ring with a stamp set into it that allows you to leave imprints of love!

And the opening is tomorrow!
Come by and say hello!
Opening Night Thursday March 27th 6-8pm

Ring set of silver and mylar- replaceable mylar with a little love story in it. A sturdy plastic paper that can be cut but not ripped.

And below is a studio shot of some of the work that's laid out for set-up at gallery tomorrow. You can see 'Cloudy Love No. 1' laid out in all seven bands along the very bottom.

Some of the work that's cut up, planned & given it's final polish over the last few weeks.

Three days to go until my show at the Crafthouse and busy with final preparations. I'm: writing the final pricelist, organising my portfolio, packing boxes, etc. With band-aids on 4 out of 5 fingers on my left hand. Quite worth it as I'm delighted with everything. And the band-aids are these wonderful 'technologically advanced' new ones that are surprisingly comfortable and somehow barely infer with my grip. I'm a fan.

In the ‘Like Wearing a Love Letter’ series I wanted to make jewellery that was like a love letter. Like wearing a daydream, a memory or a thought of love. This show includes that work as well as new and as yet unseen pieces. It is a show about little stories, hidden and in plain sight. Rings set with hidden stories, with layers like a book, with cloud like bundles of sweet thoughts.

Included are pieces made of paper, gelatin, silver, gold, textiles, plastic and rubber.

More photos to come!

I've started a new blog to host the call for stories love! Because the call gets quickly buried here and I find myself reposting it later, etc to keep it visible.

My rings in Ethical Metalsmiths' exhibition.

Rings from my ‘Like Wearing a Love Letter Series’ will be in ‘Composting Good and Evil’. An Ethical Metalsmiths group exhibition to be seen at SNAG 2008, and shown on the billboard above. A reception and preview "screening" will take place Friday, March 7, in Savannah, Georgia during the Society of North American Goldsmiths’ conference gallery tour and Savannah College of Art and Design gallery "hop." The show will appear on the digital billboard in front of Montgomery Hall from 5:30—9:00 PM.

After this, the exhibit will also appear in a digital gallery on beginning March fifteenth.

I am thrilled to be included in this, particularly as Ethical Metalsmiths seek to increase awareness of the social and environmental impacts of mining and to promote responsible sourcing and recycling.
